You have a quote with "200 km" in the small print and a weekend trip in mind. What does 200 km per rental mean for your trip? The answer depends on whether the limit covers the whole booking or repeats each day, and on the rate charged for each extra kilometre.
Here is how to read it, with the maths for routes from Vijayawada, and a link to 7 Best Road Trips from Vijayawada You Should Take in a Self Drive Car if you are still choosing a route.
Quick answer: "200 km per rental" is a free-distance allowance, and the wording decides whether it is 200 km for the whole booking or 200 km for each day. Every kilometre beyond it is charged at a per-km rate, so extra cost = kilometres over × that rate. Ask for the per-km rate before you pay.

What does 200 km per rental mean? A free-distance allowance
A kilometre limit is the distance you may drive before extra charges begin. The rental price covers the car for the rental period plus that distance, and the odometer is compared at pickup and return.

Wording varies. "200 km per rental" or "200 km total" normally means the whole booking, so a three-day trip still gets 200 km. "200 km per day" or "per 24 hours" means the allowance repeats, so three days gives 600 km if it is cumulative.
Some contracts apply the daily cap strictly, so unused kilometres from day one do not carry over. A quote should state which applies. If it does not, ask before you pay.
Worked example: one day versus two days
The same 300 km trip can cost nothing or a fair amount depending on the wording.
Day trip to Amaravati
Vijayawada to Amaravati is roughly 35 to 45 km each way. With some city driving, a day comes to about 90 km, well under 200 km, so the limit costs you nothing.
Two-day trip of 300 km
If 200 km covers the whole booking, you are 100 km over. If it is 200 km per day and cumulative, you have 400 km and pay nothing.
If the daily cap is strict and you drive 250 km on day one and 50 km on day two, only day one is over, by 50 km. One trip, three outcomes, which is why the wording matters more than the number.
Do the same maths for your own route
Add the round-trip distance, add local driving, then compare the total with the allowance for your number of days. Three steps are enough.
- Take the one-way distance from a map app and double it for a return trip.
- Add 30 to 60 km for local driving at the destination, such as hotel, sightseeing and dinner.
- Divide the allowance by days only if the terms say per day.
Treat map distances as estimates and add a buffer, because detours for food, fuel or a closed road add up. Approximate round trips from Vijayawada are in the table below; check each on a map before you book.
How common Vijayawada trips compare
Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam and Araku are the trips where a 200 km limit hurts. Figures below are approximate round trips, excluding local driving, and the over-limit columns are kilometres over, not rupees.

| Trip (days) | Round trip, approx. | Over: 200 km per booking | Over: 200 km per day | Over: 400 km per 24 hours |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Amaravati (1) | 90 km | 0 | 0 | 0 |
| Hyderabad (2) | 550 km | 350 km | 150 km | 0 |
| Visakhapatnam (2) | 700 km | 500 km | 300 km | 0 |
| Araku via Vizag (2) | 880 km | 680 km | 480 km | 80 km |
Distances are approximate and must be checked on a map; the "per day" columns assume the allowance is cumulative, which the terms must confirm. The price list quotes a 400 km per 24 hours allowance, so the last column is the one that matches our listed terms.
The rupee cost of these figures is worked out in Costs: a worked comparison below. That is why we suggest checking this before you compare headline prices.
Is unlimited km really unlimited?
Unlimited mileage is usually the simplest choice for long trips, but check the fine print, because some offers carry conditions. The headline price is often higher, which can still work out cheaper over long distances.
Before committing, check four things in writing: whether any daily or total cap sits behind the word "unlimited", whether it applies to outstation or one-way trips, whether a fair-use clause exists, and what the per-km rate is if a cap does apply. If a quote will not answer these, treat it as a limited-km quote.
For a short local trip with a clear plan, a limited allowance costs less. For a spread-out itinerary, unlimited removes a variable from your budget, though you pay for it up front.
What our price list says
Our cars start at ₹1,500 per day for the WagonR CNG and Tigor, and the fleet runs up to ₹15,000 per day for the Toyota Fortuner Automatic. The Thar is ₹5,000 and the Innova Crysta and Seltos are ₹4,500, all quoted per 24 hours with a 400 km allowance per 24 hours. Confirm the allowance for the specific car and booking before you pay.
The Grand i10 is ₹1,800 per 24 hours, and the Hyundai Creta is ₹3,000. The Toyota Fortuner Automatic is listed for weddings and VIP days. Most vehicles carry an extra-hour charge of ₹400, so returning late costs less than renting another day.
We have been in business since 2015 from our base in Vijayawada, and we also operate in Hyderabad and Vizag. We have not published a per-km rate for kilometres beyond the allowance, so ask us for it on a call before you book.
Divide the round-trip distance in the route table by the number of days, add 30 to 60 km of local driving for the busiest day, and compare that with 400 km per 24 hours.
Choosing the right plan for your trip
Match the plan to the longest day of your trip, not the average. A luxury SUV suits comfort, space and arrival, but it is not the cheapest way to cover big distances.

Local and short trips
A limited allowance is fine for Amaravati or city use. A hatchback is cheaper if you do not need presence; Hatchback vs SUV: Which Self Drive Car Suits Your Trip? helps you decide.
Long outstation runs
For Hyderabad, Vizag or Araku, a strict 200 km limit will overrun, so you need a bigger allowance or unlimited terms. The Car Rental in Vijayawada for Outstation guide covers these routes.
Which to choose: for a luxury SUV weekend beyond about 150 km each way, use the table above to pick an allowance that covers your longest day, or confirmed unlimited terms. A 200 km booking limit suits only Amaravati-type trips, because on longer routes the extra-km charge soon outweighs any saving on the headline rate.
Steps before you pay
Two checks take a few minutes and remove the surprise. Do them on every quote you compare.
- Confirm how the 24-hour period is counted from pickup time.
- Ask how the extra is settled, for example from the deposit at return.
Then note the odometer reading and fuel level at pickup, with a photo, so the return comparison is clean.
Costs: a worked comparison
Total cost is the rental rate plus extra kilometres, plus any extra-hour charge. Our extra-hour charge is ₹400 on most cars. The Thar's ₹5,000 is its 24-hour rate, not an extra-hour charge.

Example with an illustrative ₹10 per km (an example only, not our rate; get the actual per-km rate before comparing quotes): a two-day Hyderabad trip of about 550 km on a 200 km-per-booking quote is 350 km over, so 350 × ₹10 = ₹3,500 extra. On a quote with 400 km per 24 hours, it is 0 over. A rental that looks cheaper per day can end up costing more.
Fuel and tolls are separate on most rentals, so ask. Check them against the quote, and add them to any comparison.
Mistakes to avoid
Comparing headline rates only
A low daily rate with a small allowance is not cheaper on a long route. Add the extra-km cost for your route first.
Trusting map distance exactly
Detours and local driving add kilometres. Add a buffer of 10 to 15 per cent to your estimate.
Assuming days add up
A 200 km per day allowance is not the same as 200 km per booking. The two-day example above shows why the wording matters.
Frequently asked questions
Does a late return count as extra kilometres?
No, late return is a separate time charge. On most of our cars, an extra hour is ₹400. Extra distance and extra time are charged separately, and the rule for the final kilometre count must be confirmed with us in writing.
Can I drive one-way from Vijayawada to Hyderabad or Vizag?
One-way service between Vijayawada, Hyderabad and Vizag is available on request. Ask about it when you book, since one-way distance still counts against the allowance.
Which documents do I need?
Rentals generally need a valid Indian driving licence and address proof such as Aadhaar. Confirm the exact list and deposit with us when you book.
Is the odometer or GPS used to count km?
Our listing says cars are GPS-enabled, but the rule for the final count must be confirmed with us in writing; keep your own pickup photo as a record.
